Sweet Alchemy by Stelios Parliaros, a confectionary and pastry shop in Athens, is a space that one cannot ignore when walking in the up market suburb of Kifissia in the northern region of Athens. Just a look at the displays of this pastry is enough to step in and lose yourself in a space that looks a lot like a sorcerer’s workshop. Jars of jam made of seasonal fruit and nuts, chocolates waiting in line to be tasted, tarts and cookies along with culinary books, bottles, bins and trays of candy sweetly mingle together in a space that was awarded the 2013 Best Retail Space award by Travel+Leisure. Designed by Stelios Kois for Kois Associated Architects Sweet Alchemy boasts natural materials with an industrial feel, unfinished wood and concrete surfaces, bronze, copper and glass all in the right proportions to highlight the sweet alchemies of Stelios Parliaros. The imposing height of the space is just the touch needed to outline the mysterious atmosphere created by light and aromas coming out from every corner of the store.
If you happen to be travelling to Greece, don’t forget to mark Sweet Alchemy on your map to witness yourself the originality of its design and of course taste some of the delicacies made by the renowned Greek patisserie Stelios Parliaros.
